Sins of a Solar Empire II: Scalable Art Production for Stardock

The Challenge

Since late 2022, Stardock has partnered with TransPerfect Gaming to develop high-quality 3D spaceship models for Sins of a Solar Empire II, the ambitious follow-up to the acclaimed real-time strategy series.

In mid-2024, Stardock asked if we could dramatically increase production. The request was for 14 brand-new 3D spaceship models and 14 accompanying 2D concept designs—all to be delivered within a single month. This sudden increase in volume demanded rapid upscaling and flawless coordination. Given the previous pace and scope of the project, the client understood that such a high-volume delivery would be challenging.

The Solution

TransPerfect Gaming mobilized quickly to meet the challenge. What had previously been a small, two-artist team was scaled up significantly. The art director and lead artist worked closely to restructure the project plan and reassign talent internally. Key actions included:

Rapid Resource Allocation: Artists were quickly reassigned from other projects to increase bandwidth for both concept and 3D production.
Integrated Workflow: Teams worked in tight alignment, coordinating the concept-to-modeling pipeline for a faster, smoother transition.

Despite the expanded scope, TransPerfect’s structured approach and focused execution ensured that all 14 2D concept designs and 14 3D spaceship models were completed on time—without compromising on quality.
